The Fight for Trans and Queer Liveability
Western Student Services Building
Room: WSSB 2130
What does it mean to defend the lives of Trans people, Queer people and women in times of increasing fascism, white ethnonationalism, racism, global capitalist imperialism and militarization? In the past ten years in Toronto, numerous trans women and trans women of colour have either gone missing or have been murdered. In the past two years in Canada, we have witnessed the escalation of attacks on trans people amidst vigorous campaigns aimed at undermining trans health care and sexuality education in schools. Professor Beverly Bain’s talk will engage with these issues and propose strategies to refuse, resist and organize in support of the 2sLGBTQIA+ community, including Black, Indigenous and racialized members, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have a liveable life.
