Film screening: The Silence of Others (2018)
Room: 7236
The Possibilities for Peace and Reconciliation Discussion Group invites interested graduate students to our upcoming session on Friday, April 04, 12:00–1:30pm (lunch and refreshments provided).
We will be screening excerpts from Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar’s 2019 documentary The Silence of Others (El silencio de los otros).
Filmed over six years and produced by Pedro Almodóvar, the documentary reveals the epic struggle of victims of Spain’s 40-year dictatorship under General Franco, as they organize a groundbreaking international lawsuit and fight a “pact of forgetting” around the crimes they suffered. This Goya, Emmy and Peabody-winning film offers a cautionary tale about fascism and the dangers of forgetting the past, and speaks powerfully to issues of transitional justice and universal jurisdiction.
