Ideas from the Western Academy for Advanced Research:
Peace and Violence at the Intersections of Gender, Sexuality and Religion

This seminar explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, and religion in the context of increasingly escalating violence at the intersections of these realms. This seminar attempts to take a step towards preparing a different future, where the existence and inclusion of queer communities is not understood to be incompatible within religious traditions and where queer voices can be amplified using resources from within canonical religious sources in dialogue settings for lasting peace.

Dr. Uzma Rashid (she/they), Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the United Nations mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, is currently a Visiting Fellow with the Western Academy For Advanced Research. Dr. Rashid has extensive teaching and research experience in a variety of contexts across continents. Their current research interests lie at the intersections of the realms of gender, sexuality, religion, peace, and violence.
